Last three showings of the popular action-adventure.
Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence, and some language
2 hours 5 minutes

(5:00 SatSun, 7:30 Mon) BABIES
Is there anything cuter than babies? This adorable documentary following the first year of infants in four very different cultures--Mongolia, Namibia, Japan, and the U.S.--will have you smiling for sure.
Rated PG for cultural and maternal nudity
1 hour 30 minutes

July 13, 14 & 15  (TWTh)  MID-AUGUST LUNCH
Pretty dry title for a charming Italian comedy about a middle-aged man suddenly saddled with the care of not just his own mother, but three more feisty old ladies as well, as everyone else goes off on summer holiday. A nice bookend for last weekend’s Babies.
Unrated, but looks to be about a PG-13
1 hour 20 minutes

July 16-22 (Fri-Thu)  SHREK FOREVER AFTER
The loveable ogre finds himself in the world of might-have-been in this finale to the popular animated series. By making a deal with the canny Rumpelstilskin for one day of his old ogre-ish life back in exchange for a day of Rumpy’s choosing, Shrek unwittingly sets into action events that turn the kingdom of Far Far Away upside down.
Rated PG for mild action, some rude humor, and language
1 hour 35 minutes

July 23-26 (FSSM) Two choices!
(7:30 Fri, 5:00 SatSun) SHREK FOREVER AFTER
Last three chances to see Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and my own personal favorite—Puss-in- Boots, who in this alternative universe is too fat to fit into his footwear.
Rated PG for mild action, some rude humor, and language
1 hour 35 minutes
(7:30 SatSunMon) SEX AND THE CITY 2
Tired of their routines in New York City, the gal pals head for an all-expenses-paid stay at a swanky desert resort. Picture them changing their clothes three times a day in Abu Dhabi, and already you’re laughing. Cosmos, anyone? We’re having another Ladies Night on First Street with Prima, with the SATC signature drink only $5 before and after the movie on Sunday night. Click here for details, and bring your own posse (or is the female version possée?).
Rated R for some strong sexual content and language
2 hours 30 minutes

July 27, 28 & 29 (TWTh) OCEANS
Another stunning documentary from Disney Nature. This time the two Frenchmen behind Winged Migration have turned to the beauties and oddities beneath the ocean, catching life-and-death dramas and moments of visual poetry that you just cannot believe. The film makes you realize what may have been lost when that oil spilled in the Gulf.

July 30-August 2 (FSSM) Two choices!
(7:30 Fri, 5:00 SatSun) MARMADUKE
Owen Wilson gives voice to the naughty Great Dane in this live-action family comedy.
Rated PG for some rude humor and language
1 hour 30 minutes
(7:30 SatSunMon) THE KILLERS
In this action comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher a suburban woman is surprised to discover that her new husband is really an international super-spy. Now she’s working out some major trust issues
while dodging bullets, keeping up neighborly appearances, and managing her in-laws.
Rated PG-13 for violent action, sexual material, and language
1 hour 40 minutes

August 3, 4 & 5 (TWTh)  MICMACS
The title of this zany French comedy from the creator of Amélie translates as “shenanigans,” and there are definitely some weird shenanigans going on as a ragtag band of artists, recyclers, and circus performers take on two arms dealers who have ruined the life of the hapless Bazil. If it weren’t for some humorous nudity and sex, this film is so wildly inventive that it would actually be a “slam-dunk family classic” according to Minneapolis Star Tribune reviewer Colin Covert.
Rated R for some sexuality and brief violence
1 hour 45 minutes

August 6-12 (Fri-Thu)  TOY STORY 3
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz in an animated film that asks the question: Where do toys go when their owners grow up? I know plenty of mine are still in my mother’s basement 50 years later, but that’s beside the point. Pixar has a winner once again—a film that combines humor and poignancy in just the right proportions.
Rated G
1 hour 50 minutes

August 13-16 (FSSM) Two choices!
(7:30 Fri, 5:00 SatSun) TOY STORY 3
Last three chances to watch our favorite animated toys break out of the day-care center to which they’ve been consigned.
Rated G
1 hour 50 minutes
(7:30 SatSunMon) THE A-TEAM
There’s nothing so satisfying as a wisecracking B-movie and a bag of popcorn on a summer evening. Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper bring the action movie to its most preposterous level—guys shooting from a tank descending by parachute, anyone?--and I pity the fool who doesn’t enjoy it.
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence throughout, language, and smoking
2 hours

August 17, 18 & 19 (TWTh)  TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE
Jeepers, can’t she just pick one and put us all out of our misery? But the vampire and the werewolf who love mere mortal Bella (at least Sookie has ESP) must actually become allies in order to save her from a vengeful vamp played by Bryce Dallas Howard.  Your wait is over, TwiHards.
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence and some sensuality
2 hours 5 minutes

August 20-23 (FSSM) Two choices!
(7:30 Fri, 5:00 SatSunMon)
THE KARATE KID
Talented Hollywood spawn Jaden Smith and Chinese martial-arts legend Jackie Chan breathe new life into the original story of perseverance and cross-generational friendship, now set in modern China.
Rated PG for bullying, martial-arts action/violence, and some mild language
2 hour 25 minutes

(7:30 SatSunMon)
KNIGHT AND DAY
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz at their most adorable (which is a considerable amount between the two of them) travel the globe on some secret mission we really don’t need the details of. San Francisco Chronicle reviewer Mick LaSalle called the film “a high-functioning entertainment machine, guaranteed to please just about everyone who isn’t determined to be grumpy.”  Sounds like fun to me.
Rated PG-13 for sequences of action violence throughout and brief strong language
1 hour 50 minutes

August 24, 25 & 26 (TWTh) THE KARATE KID
We’ve given this really entertaining film a few more days for those who missed it because of the Fair.
Rated PG for bullying, martial-arts action/violence, and some mild language
2 hour 25 minutes

August 27-30 (FSSM) Two choices!
(7:30 Fri, 5:00 SatSun, 7:30 Mon) DESPICABLE ME
Animated comedy voiced by Steve Carell as the oddly-accented Gru, a super-villain intent on stealing the Moon who begins to lose focus once three orphaned little girls show up on his doorstep. It’s so hard to pull off an evil heist with high-tech weaponry while tying your third pair of pink shoelaces.
Rated PG for rude humor and mild action
1 hour 35 minutes
(2:00 Sun) BENEATH THE SALISH SEA
Back by popular demand for those weekenders, snowbirds, and winter-vacationers who missed deep-water photographer Florian Graner’s wonderful exploration of the life below Holmes Harbor and out into the Sound the first four times we showed it.  One of the most popular films at The Clyde this year—and made by a local.
Not rated--suitable for all ages
1 hour 25 minutes

August 31, Sept 1 & 2 (TWTh)  ONDINE
A real charmer. Colin Farrell stars in this contemporary fairy tale about an Irish fisherman who finds a mysterious woman in his net. Is she just a woman—or a selkie, as the fisherman’s young daughter believes?
Rated PG-13 for some violence, sensuality, and brief strong language
1 hour 45 minutes
